5 Tips To Prepare For Your Hairstyling/Bridal Appointment

Whether you’re getting ready for your wedding, a wedding, a special occasion, or a photo shoot, there are some things you can do to prepare for your appointment ensuring the best possible outcome!

These are general tips. If you’re unsure and have specific questions, always ask your stylist. We are here to help and want you to have the best experience.

  1. Clean, Dry Hair is Best:

As a general rule, I tell clients to stick to their normal wash schedule. Coming to your appointment without washing for 3 or 4 days, especially if your hair is not used to that, is not helpful. The products available to us make it easy to create “grit” for better styling. If your hair is too dirty, those products won’t perform well and we will struggle to create the look you desire. (Note: if you’ve added a blow-dry services, you’ll obviously need to come to your appointment with clean, wet hair.)

  2. Get A Trim:

Healthy hair styles best, and in general just looks better. If you don’t get a regular trim (I’m guilty of this sometimes!) make sure you find a hairstylist you trust long before your event. If you have the time, try to start a year in advance. Make several appointments with them to maintain your look and the health of your hair. They will be able to tell you how far in advance your last trim should be before the big day! If you’re growing out your hair, this still applies. Find a stylist who understands your end goal. Getting a regular wee baby trim (that’s a technical term, feel free to use it.) will actually help your hair grow.

  3. Consider Hair Masks:

With anything, you don’t want to try new products right before your event. However, if you try some products or services months before, you’ll likely find a routine that works for your hair. Doing a weekly mask/treatment for your specific hair type is a great way to keep your hair and scalp healthy.

  4. Let your artist know about your hair and the desired look:

This is an important tip because some clients desire a look that requires hair pieces such as extensions or bumps. Clip-in extensions are great for adding volume and length, especially if you’d like to wear your hair down. Bumps and other accessories are used to add volume to an up-do. Most artists do not carry these in their kit as they’re very specific to each client and hair type. We can give suggestions on where to buy extensions and pieces if they are needed for your desired style.

  5. Come with some ideas and an open mind:

Inspiration pictures are great! They give us direction and a general idea of what you’re hoping for. From there, to achieve the best results, allow your artist to create a similar look specifically for your hair. Chances are your hair is not like the person in your inspiration pictures. Allowing your trusted artist to have some creative freedom will result in the perfect hairstyle for you!
