The takeaway I received from that video is that when you set a goal, be sure it’s derived through inspiration, not desperation. That concept definitely got my wheels turning!! Throughout the years I have found myself coming up with ideas for my business only to find they’re fleeting and not something I’m fully ready to commit to.

For me, Hairstyling and Makeup Artistry on your wedding day are so much more than sweeping in, putting on some makeup, and heading out the door. The time with your artist is important. Part of our job is to create a streamlined, easy, peaceful, and enjoyable experience that helps set the tone for your day.

What is the difference between Natural, Natural-Glam, and Glam Makeup?

Professional makeup is different. When you hire a professional makeup artist, it’s for a specific reason. You want the makeup to last and look beautiful for your entire event. You want to achieve a specific look that is elevated from your everyday “out the door” look, even if it’s natural. This takes skill, time, knowledge, experience, and more products than you might think. It also takes time, knowledge, and effort outside of the chair in terms of educating ourselves about product ingredients, what products will work for your skin type, products that work well together and for your skin type, etc.

The Importance Of Sharing What You Learn.

This is true for Hair and Makeup Artists. Again, speaking on a specific skill I practice myself: there’s room for all of us. We all learn and practice our craft differently. How I run my business may not resonate with one artist, but it will with another. This is true for the clients you’ll attract as well. Who you are as an individual and an artist will attract clients who value your talent and the way you run your business. Where you are on your path will be different from other artists and will change over time. That’s a good thing. Intake the lessons you need to learn now, process all of that information, and continue sharing your growth with others.

Your 'Why' is Consistent; Let the 'How' be Flexible.

The who, what, when, where, why, and how are important for business owners. (And anyone in general, no matter what area of life we’re talking about.) Here’s why: (see what I did there…)

The In-Between; A Different Perspective When Feeling Stuck.

The in-between.

I used to hate the in-between (sometimes I still do.) You know, that space in time between where you are now and where you want to be. That space where you can’t wait to have the thing, own the business, be in the relationship, have the career, and so on.

It wasn’t until recently that I realized… you are literally always in the in-between.

Once you’ve reached where you want to be, there will be another goal to achieve, another thing to have, another step in the process. All of that places you back in the in-between: where you are now and where you’re headed.

Pennsylvania Wedding Hair and Makeup Artist

Networking is a big deal in this industry, but meeting vendors in person was rather difficult given the situation at the time. Instead of driving to venues, bridal shops, and florists to introduce myself, I sent out an introduction letter. Yep, old-fashioned ink, paper, and snail-mail. Of the 50 plus letters I sent, I received feedback from more than half. I call that a massive win!
