Get To Know The Artist

These posts are so fascinating to me. There’s so much more to your vendors and artists than what meets the eye. Most of it is relatively irrelevant in terms of hiring… but it’s neat information anyway! So, here are some fun facts about me you probably didn’t know before today!

1.) I have three degrees outside of Hairstyling and Makeup Artistry. The first two are bachelor’s degrees in both Psychology and Social Work. The third is a Master’s Degree in Psychology with a focus on the study of human behavior. Prior to becoming a full-time HMUA, I worked multiple jobs in Social Work, including a counselor position in a women’s dual diagnosis unit.

2.) Since starting my business in 2012, I have worked in every state on the East Coast from New Hampshire to Florida, with the exception of North Carolina and Virginia. So… if you know anyone! wink, wink

3.) This may not be news to some of you, but I couldn’t write a post about myself without including my two boys, Luka and Franklin. Luka, my cat, has moved with me five times since I adopted him eight years ago. He’s a great traveler and has even spent nights in various hotels with me. Happily, I might add. He’s the sweetest most cuddly boy. Franklin came into my life while I was living in Savannah. He’s quite literally my soulmate. He has some major health issues, but you wouldn’t know it by looking at him. I’m thankful I get to be the one who loves and cares for him. One of his favorite things to do is “cook” in the kitchen with Gramma, my mom. They’re both the loves of my life.

4.) I’m a tech-savvy nerd and love it. During the shutdown, I taught myself how to code various elements on this website that I created from scratch. I love figuring out how things work, why they work, and how to make them better.

5.) One of the things I love most about myself is that I am resourceful. If I don’t know how to do something, I’ll teach myself, or I’ll figure out a way to make it work. I think I get that from my dad. Growing up he was always MacGyver-ing something. It taught me to use my head, think outside the box, and come up with solutions. Even if those solutions weren’t conventional.

The twists and turns of life are funny. Sometimes in the moment, we’re not quite sure why things are happening. When I think back on all the little (and big) things along the way, leading me to the here and now, I feel extremely grateful. I genuinely wouldn’t do anything differently. It’s all been worth it.
