5 Tips To Prepare For Your Makeup Appointment

Getting your makeup done for any event is exciting! If you’ve never had your makeup done by a professional (and even if you have) here are 5 tips to help you prepare for your appointment. Let me know in the comments what your tips are.

Note: These are general suggestions. If you have further questions about anything at all, please ask your artist. We are here to help!

  1. Drink lots of water:

This may seem obvious, but it makes a difference. Drinking an abundance of water is great for the health of your skin. And makeup looks best on healthy skin! Make sure you’re doing this all the time, not just the day of your event.

  2. Moisturize and Exfoliate your lips:

The one thing many women, myself included, forget to do before a makeup appointment is to take care of their lips. Typically on their wedding day, special occasion, or photoshoot, women want a little bit of color on their lips. It completes the makeup and also looks amazing in photos. In order to wear a lipstick that is smudge-proof and lasting, it will likely be a bit drying. Exfoliating and moisturizing your lips often, especially in the weeks leading up to your appointment, will help your lips and lipstick look their best!

  3. Think about getting your eyebrows done:

This isn’t necessary for everyone, but I’ve had many clients say, “Crap! I forgot to get my eyebrows done!” So, this is just a friendly reminder. If you get your eyebrows waxed, threaded, or shaped, remember to make an appointment a few weeks before getting your makeup done. If you’ve never had your eyebrows done and don’t know where to start, consider looking for a brow specialist months before your event.

  4. Don’t try anything new before your appointment:

Just like the brow scenario above, if you’re going to try something new: i.e. a facial, brow shaping, sunless tanning, lash extensions, nails, haircuts and color, do it in advance. I recommend trying new treatments/ services at least six months before your event. There’s always a chance you may have a reaction, or you may not like the outcome. Giving yourself at least a six month lead will provide time for changes and healing if necessary.

  5. Bring inspiration pictures and be open to change.

Having inspiration photos to guide your artist is great! It gives us some direction for your desired outcome. Also, please come with an open-mind for your artists interpretation of what will look best on YOU. The person in the photos you show likely won’t have your face-shape, hair length or thickness, etc. It’s our job to take what you love about the inspiration photo and create a look specifically for you.

Favorite Lip Scrub

Once a week followed by a heavy, lux lip-mask at night. Perfection.

Favorite Lip Treatment

I discovered this over Christmas and then promptly purchased multiples. It says sleeping mask, but I apply it all the time. It comes with an applicator that has a little pouch for storage. I don’t mind a pot as long as I’m not sharing or dipping with dirty fingers.
