Tips For Your Wedding Day: Getting Ready The Day Of!
As hair and makeup artists, we want the getting-ready process on the morning of your wedding to be calm, relaxing, stress-free, and fun. So, here are some tips to help you with the timeline and some additional ideas for the morning of!
If you think you’ve scheduled enough time, add an extra 30 minutes. One of the biggest changes former brides say they would make is adding more time so they felt less rushed.
Have a timeline for hair and makeup. If you have several participants getting ready with you, a timeline for each person and service will help the morning run more smoothly. Keep in mind, that changes will inevitably happen. Having a guide will help.
Be sure to coordinate with your photographer and makeup/hair artist about finish times. I have worked at many weddings where the photographer had a different end-time than me. They felt pressured because they were late and we felt pressured because we were rushing. Everything always works out, but avoiding that stress is helpful for everyone.
The bride should not be last for hair and makeup. Typically I schedule the bride someplace in the middle. Your hair and makeup are meant to last all day, so going last is not necessary. Toward the end of the getting ready time, you will be pulled in different directions, and having your hair and makeup already done will be helpful.
If you’re like me, constant activity (even good activity) can be overwhelming. Schedule time to be alone. Take 15 minutes to breathe before getting into your dress, or while you’re getting dressed. Let everyone know this is important to you and add it to your schedule.
